In late 1939, some 4,000 artworks were removed from the Louvre: the Venus de Milo, the Winged Victory of Samothrace, the Mona Lisa, and the major part of the painting collection... Dozens of convoys took these national treasures into safekeeping, out of sight of the occupying forces. The film recounts and documents this extraordinary episode in a little-known resistance movement that was both astounding and calmly heroic.
