What exactly is a donation? What motivates it? What gestures, words, expressions, and emotions accompany it? This film sets out to answer these questions with the story of a donation made to the Louvre by David David-Weill (an art collector and expert in 18th-century cabinetmaking). The donation in question is the statuette of an Apostle (probably St. Philip) from the shrine of St. Romain (1260–1280). The film showcases this admirable work of art, and underscores the primary mission of the Musée du Louvre.
