Dietrich von Bothmer was born in Germany in 1918, and became a US citizen in 1944. He is one of the foremost historians of ancient Greek art, and a specialist in Attic vases. He worked for many years as a curator at the Metropolitan Museum of New York. In this film, made shortly after the publication of "Dietrich von Bothmer: a bibliography of his works" (Jasper Gaunt and Martine Denoyelle, Musée du Louvre, 1993), this generous donor to the Louvre talks about his life and his passion for art.
