The pianist and composer Louise Farrenc was much admired in her day, but fell into oblivion after her death in 1875. Nonetheless, she is one of the female composers—from Francesca Caccini, Barbara Strozzi, and Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre to Fanny Mendelssohn and Clara Schumann—who have marked the history of music. This recording revives the talent of this forgotten composer, and echoes the cycle of concerts (featuring several soloists) at the Louvre Auditorium from January 5 to 26, 2005.
