In 1986, the painter Pierre Soulages was commissioned to create a series of stained glass windows for the Romanesque abbey church in Conques, to replace the windows installed in the 1940s. This film, with a commentary by the artist himself, traces the eight years it took to complete the project: from the first sketches to real-size models, from the first attempts to manufacture the glass to the creation then positioning of the windows. Jean-Noël Cristiani emphasizes the dialogue between Soulages ("sculptor of light") and Romanesque architecture.
