Regards sur le Louvre – Vol. 5 : "Restaurer" (ADAV)
This short documentary recounts the restoration of Gregor Erhart's sculpture of Mary Magdalene as a mystical ascetic (1510). Legend has it that the repented sinner lived hidden in the cave of St. Baume, clothed only by her hair. Every day, she was raised up to heaven by angels to hear the heavenly chorus. The statue appeared on the German art market in the 19th century, and was purchased by the Louvre in 1902. This film was made on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition at the Louvre (October 21, 1991– January 20, 1992).
