"I particularly like Pisanello's drawings," says Jean Giono in his book An Italian Journey (1953). In this film, extracts from Giono's novel lead us on the trail of this painter, outstanding medallion maker, and prolific draftsman. The film spotlights Pisanello's frescoes in Verona, and takes the viewer into an extraordinary world that is both medieval and contemporary. The film was made on the occasion of the exhibition "Pisanello (1395–1455): the Painter with Seven Virtues" (Musée du Louvre, 1996), curated by Dominique Cordellier and Paola Marini.
