Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans

Architectures series

Editor(s) of the series: Richard Copans, Stan Neumann

The "Architectures" series highlights a selection of the world's most significant monuments, considering each with regard to its historical and geographical context. Each film pays equal attention to the inside and outside of the building in question.

Director(s): Richard Copans, Stan Neumann

Scientific advisor(s): Geneviève Bresc

A number of factors contributed to the construction of the Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans, a masterpiece of 18th-century European architecture: financial motivation, industrial innovation, and what its visionary architect Claude-Nicolas Ledoux described as the "architectural frenzy" of the period.
