Synopsis: L’ Hotel de Soubise et l’hôtel de Rohan in the Marais district in Paris are two interpretations of the same model, the one of the private mansion “à la française”. Built by the same architects, for the same family, facing each other both sides of a large garden, these two works are making up a unique collection in the 18 th century French architecture. Land of rivalry of two great architects, Delamair and Boffrand, they illustrate the conflict between ancient and modern, the decline of classicism and triumph in France of this style as denigrate as elusive called Rococo.
