Jean Siméon Chardin – Painter

Artists series

The "Artists" series is an introduction to the lives and works of great masters of painting. Each film presents a particular painter, and takes an enjoyable and instructive look at the sources of modernity in art.

Director(s): Michaël Gaumnitz

This film is the portrait of a painter whom Diderot, his contemporary, described as a "magician": Jean Siméon Chardin. This "painter of silences" worked wonders with the reality of everyday life, within the confines of the house or even of the kitchen.
