Deir el-Medina

Director(s): Jérôme Prieur

Scientific advisor(s): Guillemette Andreu

At Deir el-Medina, near Luxor in Upper Egypt, the remains of a village of 68 houses lie hidden in the shelter of a gorge that cannot be seen from the road leading to the Valley of the Kings. Despite appearances, these ruins are the extremely rare vestiges of an Egyptian village dating from Pharaonic times; they are direct evidence of the daily lives of ordinary Egyptians during the New Kingdom. This short film explores the vestiges in the archaeological context of Deir el-Medina.
