Champollion's Heirs

Director(s): Yves Peretti (de)

Following the tradition of Jean-François Champollion and Auguste-Édouard Mariette (founder of the Department of Antiquities in Egypt), curators and restorers from the Louvre make regular visits to Egypt to follow their hunches on the spot. Yves de Peretti's documentary travels between the Louvre and a number of archaeological sites including Karnak, Thebes, Tanis, and Saqqara. Two hundred years after Bonaparte's expedition, it recounts the impassioned relationship that grew up between France and Egypt.
